CSC 308: Numerical Computation II

Objective

This course is a continuation of CSC 307: Numerical Computations I. In CSC 308 we shall consider numerical methods with more practical applications. We will discuss practical computational models and the most accurate implementation strategies for them. Specifically, we shall introduce interpolation and approximation techniques as well as explain how they can be accurately implemented on a computational tool. We will discuss techniques and algorithms for numerical integration,  numerical solution of differential equations, amongst others. In each topic considered, we shall discuss the context within which the solutions developed will be expected to perform well in terms of their accuracy, effectiveness and efficiency. 

Please review the CSC 307 topics on Polynomials and the algorithms for their implemenation. This will be the focus of our first class laboratory assignment. Although the course will follow what obtains in the last year, i.e. 2010/2011 Rain Semeter, there will be changes in the laboratory and aspects of the topic coverage.
